Comparing The Chinese And Japanese Cultures

chinese vs japanese culture

Since ancient times, both countries have always been competing over something. It may be a territorial claim, goods, or just a mixture of people. However, when we talk about Chinese or Japanese culture, there are specific reasons for Chinese Vs. Japanese. The actual reason behind Chinese vs. Japanese culture is still hidden in history. Although there were minor changes in their culture, China and Japan were never really able to live peacefully. Throughout history, the Chinese people were always trying to dominate Japan. They were also trying to spread their influence throughout Asia, which they did by uniting Korea and Japan into one country. There was no longer any difference between the Chinese people and the Japanese people during those times as they were already one race.

Separate Political Systems

Over the years, these two nations maintained their separate political systems. Although they used to be politically united, after World War II, diplomatic relations became very good. Therefore, after the destruction of Japan’s cities, many Japanese people decided to leave China and resettle in other parts of Asia. This caused problems for the Chinese people as they were not allowed to visit their former friends. Therefore, they started feeling threatened by the powerful Chinese influence in their lives.

World War II And Japan

After World War II, the political structure of Japan began to change. As this happened, many Japanese people resettled in different parts of Asia, such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Many Japanese people came to these areas and started establishing their political systems. Therefore, to keep their identity separate, they combined their culture with that of the new immigrants. The primary reason behind this is to preserve their political systems. After all, when an entire nation undergoes political modernization, the old cultural values start to disappear along with the history of the old political structure.

Old Japanese Customs And Beliefs

During this process of political restructuring, some of the old Japanese customs and beliefs were adopted by the new immigrants to preserve their identity. Some of the old ideas, such as respecting the elderly, family values, and the Meiji Period history, were incorporated into the Japanese people’s new lives. On the other hand, some of the new ideas, such as respecting personal freedom and property, became a universal value for all nations. In the eyes of the Japanese people, it became a way of life that they could not live without because they enjoyed modern amenities without changing their traditional lifestyles.

Education And Lifestyle

Regarding education and lifestyle, the gap between the two nations’ cultures couldn’t be more significant. While the Japanese people can finish high studies in several fields, such as medicine, law, and business, the Chinese people are far behind with elementary education, less than one percent literacy rate, and less than one percent reading rate. However, both of these facts were becoming much more common as time passed. Thus, if we take a closer look at the two nations, we will see how the cultural gaps started to form.

Current Generation

The current generation in both of the two nations is different concerning their gender issues. On the one hand, there was the age-old gender equality that the Japanese Constitution had promoted. On the other hand, the Chinese people still experience widespread gender discrimination. It is because of this that the Japanese people are more successful economically than the Chinese people.

Summing Up

However, the Japanese people were able to capitalize on the cultural divide between the two cultures. Through the years, they have improved a lot on many things. For instance, Japanese food has come a long way from being just ‘fish food’ to something more healthy and delicious. This has been done through the years, and the result is something that we can all enjoy. Thus, when comparing the two cultures, we can see how their respective histories have greatly affected each other and how they can now live alongside one another.
